Frequently Asked Questions

Peace practice alliance

  • The PPA is for individuals who:

    • lead an initiative or small organization and want support and leadership guidance

    • identify as peace leaders and are looking for community and a professional network to support them in their peace work or who aim to self-identify as peace leaders and want to grow their knowledge and practice

    • seek to take a pause in their life and rejuvenate personally or professionally

  • The Peace Practice Alliance is supported by global partners including:

    • Centre for Executive Education at the University for Peace

    • United Religions Initiative

    • Crew for All

    • Worldwide Education and Research Institute

  • Eligible participants should have a strong proficiency in international English and an  interest or experience in peacebuilding, community development, or global citizenship. If you're passionate about leading social change locally or globally, this program is for You! Individuals must be over 18 years old to apply (though peace leaders of all ages are welcome to join other Euphrates activities!).

  • Applicants should demonstrate an alignment with Euphrates values. Applicants should demonstrate integrity, an eagerness to learn, a growth mindset, a commitment to practicing peace, and a desire/motivation to actively participate in community. Euphrates encourages applicants outside of the peacebuilding field to apply, and such applicants should demonstrate an interest in integrating peace practice into your work. Euphrates puts a strong emphasis on curating cohorts that are diverse in demographics and types of initiatives/professional backgrounds. Applicants from marginalized identities and contexts, and with intersectional interests, are encouraged to apply.

  • Once applications are submitted, a review committee reads each application and invites a shortlist of applicants to 30-minute interviews. Interviews are conducted over the course of two weeks, and a review committee creates a final list of accepted applicants.

  • No prior experience is necessary! We welcome applicants with a passion for peace and social change. Whether you're new to peacebuilding or have years of experience, we trust that you'll find this program meaningful.

  • On average, you’ll dedicate 5-8 hours per week, including self-paced learning, cohort calls, and group activities. Many of our participants successfully balance their professional and personal commitments while engaging fully in the program.

  • Unfortunately, no. The Peace Practice Alliance program is a six-month commitment and is designed to be completed from start to end. Being active for the full six months allows for both the individual participant and the cohort community to thrive. We can only accept applicants who can commit to the full duration of the program.

  • Since the Peace Practice Alliance is conducted entirely online, participants must have access to a device with internet connection. This can include a laptop, phone, or tablet. For some participants, this may also include an internet data package, a wifi router, or headphones. Participants must have access to an online internet browser on their device(s). Zoom, and WhatsApp.

  • Euphrates aims to make the program as accessible as possible to participants. If an applicant is accepted and does not have the technology needed to join, scholarships for technology access are available on a case-by-case basis.

  • Right now, the program is only offered in International English and we do not offer translation services. We do have alumni who go on to replicate the PPA into their own local context, including different languages.

  • Yes! The program is structured to accommodate participants with busy schedules. The cohort calls happen twice a month, and the rest of the learning is self-paced, giving you the flexibility to engage when it suits you best.

  • Absolutely! We have a global community of participants. A high proficiency in international English will help you fully engage with the materials and discussions, but we value diverse linguistic and cultural perspectives.

  • The donation is entirely optional and based on what feels comfortable for you. We want everyone accepted to participate, regardless of financial ability, and scholarships are available to ensure you have access to the full program experience.

  • No. The Peace Practice Alliance program is conducted entirely online. We deeply value the magic of bringing people together in-person, and we aim to create more opportunities to be able to gather live. We host occasional in-person events with alumni, and we create connections between peace leaders to meet as they are able.

  • All are welcome in the Euphrates peace practice community! Euphrates offers monthly Global Connections calls open to the public to explore peace practice together. We also host ongoing online workshops on peace leadership, and invite requests to collaborate on tailored workshops for communities. Sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media to receive ongoing updates, stories, and opportunities through Euphrates.

  • Absolutely! We’d love for you to share this opportunity with others who are passionate about peacebuilding. Feel free to direct them to our website for more information on how to apply.

  • The Peace Practice Alliance is designed for new participants. PPA alumni are not eligible to apply to repeat the full program, though alumni are warmly invited to engage through future alumni offerings, short courses, Global Connection Calls, and other community opportunities.

  • Yes, absolutely. We warmly welcome people to apply again.

Each year, we receive more applications than we are able to accept due to cohort size and our desire to create a meaningful, connected learning experience. Not being accepted in a previous year does not mean you are not a strong fit for the PPA. In fact, we often see people apply again in a future year, and we are always glad to hear from returning applicants. Sometimes the timing, cohort balance, or available space is simply different from year to year.

If you feel the PPA still aligns with your life, work, and peace leadership journey, we encourage you to apply again.

  • Yes, the PPA offers tools, practices, frameworks, and reflective activities that can support your peace leadership in real-life situations.

At the same time, the PPA is not a program where you will receive one single answer for every challenge. Peacebuilding is deeply contextual. What is needed in one relationship, community, or country may look different somewhere else.

The PPA is a learning community where we hold questions together, explore possibilities, share experiences, and practice applying peace leadership in our own contexts. Participants engage with tools such as deep listening, personal reflection, dialogue practices, community mapping, systems thinking, and other approaches connected to personal, interpersonal, community, and global peace.

The goal is to help participants build clarity, confidence, and practice, while also learning from the wisdom and experience of the cohort.

  • The PPA is co-facilitated, co-led, and co-created by the Euphrates team, the Learning Committee, alumni, guest contributors, and the cohort itself. While the program has a clear structure and curriculum, each cohort brings its own wisdom, questions, needs, gifts, and experiences.

We respond to the emerging needs of the cohort throughout the program. This may shape how we hold conversations, what examples we bring forward, what questions we spend more time with, or how participants support one another. In this way, the PPA is not only something participants receive. It is something we create together. Each person contributes through their presence, reflection, listening, questions, creativity, and care.
